AOC’s Guide to healthier gaming continues
Last time, we introduced you to five very useful tips to make your gaming sessions healthier. This week, we are going to continue with the second part and six additional useful pieces of advice that can reduce negative effects of long-term gaming.
6. Take a break
We have already mentioned it in point 1-3 last week but take longer breaks from time to time. Especially if you feel tilted, getting up and doing something else is very advisable. The longer you intend to play, the more important it is to take breaks.
Give your body some time to relax and recharge the batteries. If you feel like you are missing out on something, you can use this time to theorycraft a little or make plans to improve your game. You will be rewarded with more endurance, an alert mind, a better game plan and also prevent health risks that can accompany monotonous activities.
7. Team up
While there are examples of people who have completely neglected their social life due to too much gaming, it can be an excellent way to keep in touch with your peers. Engage in multiplayer games, maintain your friendships, and experience games together. However, do remember to meet people in the real world, too. Despite being a great social tool, your analogue and digital life should be well-balanced.
8. Fresh air for fresh plays
You don’t necessarily have to go outside to get some fresh air. Opening your windows can also wake up your mind and enhance your performance. Being in an enclosed space for a long time can increase CO2 levels that may impair your thinking. If the air you breathe contains one or more percent of CO2, it can already cause headaches and make you feel sick.
9. Keep calm and relaxed
Gaming is not always a relaxing activity. On the contrary, it can become quite a nerve-wrecking affair that demands all of our attention as well as our best performances. These stress levels do of course affect our bodies. Stress affects our posture, our blood pressure and heart rate, and the tension of our muscles. While stress as a stimulant can have a positive effect on our performance at times, too much may impair our ability to perform well. As a result, you should learn some techniques to relax your body, make you more comfortable and put you back in control.
10. Have a healthy state of mind
Being tilted, frustrated, agitated or afraid directly impacts our way we perceive and play a game. A negative mindset almost always affects your play in a negative way. We all love playing games and they are an important part of our lives but losing won’t have any real negative consequences. Losing is nothing to worry too much about because it’s always an opportunity to improve and become better at the game.
11. Get some rest
Our last advice is rather simple and applies to your life in general: get some rest, people! We all have played all night long because it was just too much fun. Yet, this isn’t anything you should do on a frequent basis. Getting enough sleep is paramount. Sleeping too little can make you depressed, increase the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Not to mention that your focus will get worse, which is less than ideal for a gamer.
We hope that these tips will help you leading a healthy lifestyle, without limiting the fun part of gaming. Always keep them in mind and listen to your body.
